THE CENTRAL ELEMENT OF THE WORK IS A HYBRID FORM BUILT AROUND A CROSSED ARRANGEMENT OF LIMBS CONTAINED IN ANAMORPHIC TABI-STYLE SHOES. FROM THEIR SURFACES GROW LONG SPIKES - SHARP, INTEGRATED STRUCTURES THAT FUNCTION BOTH AS DEFENSIVE AND OFFENSIVE ELEMENTS. A SPIRAL CABLE WITH PEARLS WRAPPED AROUND THE FEET SERVES AS LACES, ORGANIZING THE FORM WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY BUILDING TENSION, EVOKING THE IMAGE OF A TIGHTENING MECHANISM.
THE OBJECT WAS DESIGNED IN A 3D ENVIRONMENT AND TRANSFERRED ONTO AN ALUMINUM SHEET VIA UV PRINTING. ITS SCALE SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEEDS THAT OF THE HUMAN BODY. MOUNTED ON A WALL, THE FORM FEELS OPPRESSIVE - IT TAKES OVER THE SPACE, ASSERTS ITS PRESENCE. THE COLD, SLIGHTLY HOLOGRAPHIC SURFACE OF THE ALUMINUM AND THE AESTHETICS OF A NEGATIVE IMAGE DETACH IT FROM CORPOREALITY, TRANSFORMING IT INTO A TECHNICAL ARTIFACT OR A TRACE OF A SYSTEM ERROR.
THE FORM ORIGINATES FROM A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF AVATAR DESIGN - A PRACTICE PRESENT SINCE CHILDHOOD, IN WHICH THE BODY BECOMES A SITE OF EXPERIMENTATION, PROTECTION, AND REDEFINITION. HERE, THE AVATAR IS FROZEN IN THE EDITING PHASE - INCONSISTENT, STRIPPED OF FUNCTION, YET EMOTIONALLY CHARGED.
THE WHOLE PIECE IS SUSPENDED BETWEEN PROTECTION AND ATTACK, MOVEMENT AND STASIS: THE SPIKES CAN DEFEND OR WOUND, THE CABLE CAN STABILIZE OR STRANGLE. THE OBJECT APPEARS READY FOR ACTION BUT REMAINS MOTIONLESS, AS IF INSTINCT HAS BEEN DISTORTED OR DILUTED. IT IS AN IMAGE OF A PERSON FUNCTIONING UNDER CONSTANT STRAIN, DRIFTING BETWEEN THE REAL AND THE DIGITAL, BETWEEN VISIBILITY AND DISAPPEARANCE.
